My evening at GIMA Awards 2016
The GIMA Awards were held at the Celtic Manor Hotel, Newport this year, a spectacle which I have driven past many a time on my way in and out of Wales, but never actually visited. It is a fantastically big hotel, zig-zagged with escalators and lifts to get the many guests around the hotel. On arrival, you are greeted by some impressive wooden Welsh dragons – a nice touch!
During the event I was sat with old and new faces, including Michael Hall of Fallen Fruits and Matt Jones of Sipcam. Fallen Fruits have been a customer of Aspin for over 10 years, using MiniSell, MiniSell 2 and now PixSell for their sales team. I had previously met with Matt a few years back when he was MD of Doff Portland, and they were looking for both a warehouse management system and an iPad app for the sales team. The table was hosted by Maz Stokes, who Aspin are starting to work with on various ventures, included joining her at the upcoming Glee Trade Show 2016 (http://www.gleebirmingham.com/exhibitor/Aspin).
Vicky Nuttall and Chris Ramsden, Director and President of the GIMA trade association respectively, hosted the evente, with the comedian Tim Vine adding some comic spin to the event. His simplistic but highly effecive one liners were most amsuing.
The food was delicious (I definitely did not eat two puddings) and the wine flowed freely prior to the award giving, which meant for much merriment when the time came for Aspin customers and other key players in the gardening sector to be called up in force to pick up their honours. Pictured above are Smart Garden Products winning the GIMA Sword of Excellence Winners for their Eureka! Solar Lightbulb. Gardman were joint winners with Burgon & Ball of the Pet Care, Aquatics & Wild Bird Care award for their Poppy Feeder Dish.
Congratulations to all the other winners and runners up, the details of which can be found here: http://gima.org.uk/gima-awards-2016-winners/
I woke up a little jaded after a fun evening and made my way back to Hampshire, stopping in Marlborough for a refuel pub lunch!
A big thank you to Maz Stokes of www.maryannestokes.co.uk for inviting me to join her table at the GIMA Awards last Thursday night, and we look forward to collaborating with her at GLEE in September. Come and see us both on stand 20J38 in hall 20.
